چکیده

In vertebrates and Drosophila, the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) signal transduction pathway is important in the regulation of cellular development. EGFR is bound by several activating ligands including Transforming Growth Factor-α in vertebrates, and its homolog Spitz in Drosophila. It has been shown that Spitz and EGFR act in the development of the Drosophila central nervous system and compound eye. Here we show that spitz function is required in developing ommatidia for the first cell recruitment step, and that Spitz pro-protein is expressed in the retinal neurons as they begin to differentiate. We propose a ‘two-key’ model for additive signal transduction from EGFR and other receptor tyrosine kinases, via the Ras pathway, in the developing eye.

A Retinal Axon Fascicle Uses Spitz, an EGF Receptor Ligand, to Construct a Synaptic Cartridge in the Brain of Drosophila

Photoreceptor axons arriving in the Drosophila brain organize their postsynaptic target field into a precise array of five neuron "cartridge" ensembles. Here we show that Hedgehog, an initial inductive signal transported along retinal axons from the developing eye, induces postsynaptic precursor cells to express the Drosophila homolog of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). The EGFR lig...

Role of the EGFR/Ras/Raf pathway in specification of photoreceptor cells in the Drosophila retina.

The Drosophila EGF receptor is required for differentiation of many cell types during eye development. We have used mosaic analysis with definitive null mutations to analyze the effects of complete absence of EGFR, Ras or Raf proteins during eye development. The Egfr, ras and raf genes are each found to be essential for recruitment of R1-R7 cells. In addition Egfr is autonomously required for M...

Comparative Retina Stratification in Embryos, Larvae and Adults of Alburnus chalcoides

The present investigation considered retina structure in embryos, larvae and adult Alburnus chalcoides. Histological samples of retina were provided from adult fish, different stages of embryonic and larval development. Eye primordia formed from ectoderm at 16 hours after fertilization (16hAF) and then developed to eye cups. Initial eye cup which contained undifferentiated retina began to form ...

Genetic Interaction of Centrosomin and Bazooka in Apical Domain Regulation in Drosophila Photoreceptor

BACKGROUND Cell polarity genes including Crumbs (Crb) and Par complexes are essential for controlling photoreceptor morphogenesis. Among the Crb and Par complexes, Bazooka (Baz, Par-3 homolog) acts as a nodal component for other cell polarity proteins. Therefore, finding other genes interacting with Baz will help us to understand the cell polarity genes' role in photoreceptor morphogenesis. M...

Eyes closed, a Drosophila p47 homolog, is essential for photoreceptor morphogenesis.

Starting with a mutation impacting photoreceptor morphogenesis, we identify here a Drosophila gene, eyes closed (eyc), as a fly homolog of p47, a protein co-factor of the p97 ATPase implicated in membrane fusion. Temporal misexpression of Eyc during rhabdomere extension early in pupal life results in inappropriate retention of normally transient adhesions between developing rhabdomeres. Later E...
